Sarcoptes scabiei (w.m.)

Photomicrograph of Sarcoptes scabiei, the scabies or itch mite. Magnification: 100x.

A photomicrograph of a prepared slide showing Sarcoptes scabiei, the scabies or itch mite, magnified 100x. The body of the itch mite is oval-shaped, nearly transparent, and has numerous bristles projecting outward from various locations. Adult mites have eight jointed legs (also with bristles), but only the front four are clearly visible in this photograph (two pair, extending downward on both sides of the head).
