Pencillium (c.s.)
Photomicrograph of Penicillium showing asci with sexual ascospores. Note the numerous, thread-like hyphae surrounding the cleistothecia. Magnification: 100x. A photomicrograph of a prepared slide showing Penicillium stained red and green and magnified 100x. The sexual ascospores (smallest red sphears), are contained within sac-like asci that are grouped together within cleistothecia (larger sphears). The cleistothecia are surrounded by masses of thread-like hyphae, so appear fuzzy. The genus is listed as Penicillium (anamorph name) because it is the name most commonly used for these fungi.
