A photomicrograph of a prepared slide showing the cyanobacteria Gloeocapsa stained pink and magnified 1000x. Individual cells are oval-shaped and surrounded by a semi-transparent (light pink) capsule or glycocalyx. In some cases, two cells occupy the same capsule. Linear (filamentous) objects present in the preparation are other types of organisms or debris stuck to the cyanobacteria.
