A photomicrograph of a prepared slide showing a variety of algae genera categorized as Desmids, stained pink or blue and magnified 100 times. Desmids are often composed of two semicells connected by a narrow isthmus. The two semicells often appear as mirror images. Desmids are some of the most beautiful microscopic algae found in fresh water.
