A photomicrograph of a prepared slide showing sexual basidiospores formed by the fungus Coprinus, magnified 400x. The basidiospores (small, red-brown ovals) are arranged in clusters along both surfaces of the gills or lamellae. This view (a cross section through the cap of a mushroom) shows both surfaces of one gill section (blue-stained tissue) and one surface of another.
